Help:How to import an image from Wikipedia

From AIDS Wiki

Here are the steps to import an image from Wikipedia. Please note that these steps only apply to images imported from the English Wikipedia. (Help sections for other types of image importing may be added at a later time.)

  1. Go to the webpage for the image file at Wikipedia. For example, to import the image Davidho.gif, go to "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Davidho.gif". (Don't try to import Davidho.gif right now; it's already imported.)
  2. Save the image, either by clicking on the link to the image and using "Save as" or by right-clicking on the link and using "Save link as". Save the file to your desktop or to some convenient folder on your computer. IMPORTANT: At this point, if you wish to change the name of the file, you must do it now. For example, we would click "Save link as" and then change "Davidho.gif" to "DavidHo.gif".
  3. In a new tab (or window), go to the following link at the AIDS Wiki site: "http://www.reviewingaids.org/awiki/index.php/Image:DavidHo.gif". Of course, here you would replace "DavidHo" with the name of the file you're importing.
  4. You will see a blank page. Click on "Upload file" in the toolbox on the left. You may have to scroll down to see this.
  5. A new page comes up. Click on "Browse". Choose the image file you have just saved to your desktop or other folder.
  6. Go back to the original tab (window) in Wikipedia. Click on "edit" and then copy all important information of the image file from the window. You should not include templates.
  7. Paste this information into the "Summary" window back at the AIDS Wiki tab (browser).
  8. Still within the "Summary" window, double space, and use the image credit template: {{imagecredit|imagetitle=Davidho.gif}}. IMPORTANT: At this point, you must use the original spelling of the Wikipedia image file. For instance, note that the "H" in the template above is now lower-case.
  9. Click on "Upload file".
  10. You're done! The image may not show up immediately on all articles that link to it. Be sure to delete the image file from your desktop or folder.
